Tyler's Room

We did it! Our boys room is all done :-) Scott and I grew up watching and loving Winnie the pooh (a fact about my husband I didn't learn until after we were married!) so we brought that into the nursery. The fact is though, I've always known my child's nursery would be Winnie the Pooh, whether Scott agreed or not, ha!

Here it is! (Can you tell I'm excited?)

I thought this was such a fitting quote for a nursery.

Here is a lamp shade I bought on ebay. It's so perfect! Love it.  I bought this wicker shelf on ebay too and spray painted it.

My old 4th grade teacher gave this to me. She used this for her daughter's nursery when I was her student and she went out on maternity leave! ha!

My cousin Lisa made me the infamous quote I love in a frame :)
Before I end this post, I leave you with this before and after. It seemed like this nursery would never get done! I miss that chandelier ;-)

Can't wait to meet you, Tyler <3

I am 39 weeks today...due in 1 week! yikes! I'm thinking this boy will be coming late but either way he will be here in 2 1/2 weeks or less no matter what!

Keep you all posted! xo

Baby Shower Time!

I had the most amazing time at the baby shower. Well, first it all started Friday for me with a nice little surprise that turned into an awesome weekend event.

My mom called me up on my way home from work on Friday. She said she got something in the mail for me and wants me to come over and see it before everyone else does at the shower. Well mom, I'm really tired and don't exactly want to but ok, it's Friday!

I pull into my parents driveway and see a car that isn't normally there. I think I know who it belongs to but I walk inside very curious. I see my mom's cousin Stefanie and her husband Marty there! They drove in from Buffalo and I was so surprised to see that they made the trip!! Stefanie tells me, "We aren't the suprise." Okay now I can't believe it, that seemed like enough of a surprise! My mom and everyone else tagging along walks me over to a closed bedroom door. It must be something big and unwrapped which is why the door is closed, right?

WRONG. My cousin, Lisa, and her son Finn from Florida are sitting on the bed!!!! I haven't seen my cousin in 2 1/2 years and I never met her son because of stupid Jet Blue last summer (a long story for another day). WHAT A SHOCK!! It was the best surprise of a lifetime, truly. I wish I had pictures to share with you of my complete and utter shock but I don't. My cousin did, however, record a little video on her phone of my seeing her. That was pretty funny.

Okay, enough talk. here are some pictures of the shower...courtesy of my wonderful cousin, Lisa.

My best friend's husband, Jon, made the cookie favors. They have bees on them for the Winnie the pooh theme! How awesome is that?! Thanks Jon!

Believe it or not, we didn't plan these outfits.

Finn was so social! What a cutie :)

Aww my pretty cousin!

Here is one particular gift that we got from my best friend's mom and sister. Thanks Jo and Abby! Tyler is going to love it! I surely do!
How cute!?
Some group shots with friends and family.

We got home and had everything in the living room and nursery.
Finn was having so much fun hehe
I had so much fun figuring out where everything was going to go! Of course it was a 2 week project because I have to take a lot of breaks since my feet swell and hurt :( Gotta love pregnancy! I'm ready for Tyler to get here already!

Thank you to all of you for your thoughtful gifts and coming to the shower! I had a blast and Scott and I love you all. Tyler is going to be one lucky kid with all of our wonderful family and friends <3

Almost there!

I haven't posted a new blog in forever because the laptop has been downstairs in the cold basement while I sit upstairs in the warmth on my new ipad. I can't seem to blog on the ipad so I've been putting it off. I thought I was being all cool and I brought the laptop upstairs. The battery life was still above 70% and for some reason it just shut off and erased the entire blog I was working on :( So here I go to try it again...this time plugged in downstairs. I'm cold :(

The nursery is completed as I write this but I'll show you the work in progress first. It went through a pretty huge transformation in my opinion. I blogged about the way way beginning already...

This was a half empty room that we turned into an "office" by putting a desk in it and we lived with that horrific chandelier for a year. And as the old blog post shows the bottom part of the wall got painted a yellowy-beige color. Next the chair rail was put up and painted.

Look at my mom helping us out! Whooo!

My dad built the dresser for us but I didn't take any pictures (sorry mom)

Scott continued to built the rest of it and of course the most important piece...the crib!

We played around with moving furniture around and getting the best layout that made the most sense. Geeze, there were so many factors to consider (1) I didn't want to the crib up against this wall because it's right up against the kitchen and it could be noisy! (2) I didn't want the dresser up against the other wall because the radiator is there which leaves a gap between the dresser and the wall and when he gets older there are things that will go flying back there when he is given an item to distract him while getting his diaper changed. (3) The glider sticks out really far in this tiny room so where could it go where we wouldn't walk into it all the time? (4) I wanted to use this corner wicker shelf in this one specific corner that would possibly hold the video monitor. (5) I bought an expensive winnie the pooh lamp shade to go on my grandma's old lamp and I intended on using it no matter what. (6) The light switch is connected to one particular outlet so there has to be a lamp plugged in there!

Do you see what I mean? Troubling.

Ultimately we ended up with this layout which I am very happy with.

Then I anxiously awaited the baby shower to fill in all the empty space! Speaking of baby shower, that should be my next post :)

A work in progress

It is so exciting to begin a project like this one. To think this room will belong to someone who isn't here yet and no one even knows what he looks like! Of course he is loved so much already and that's what makes this project so gratifying and I can't help but smile even though I'm nearly 7 months pregnant and getting put to work!

First things first we had to remove everything office related and move it downstairs so we can start with an empty room.

Then my ever so handy father in law started closing up the wall...

And then Scott and I started painting! That's right, I helped! I put up the tape and did a bit of the trimming. Needless to say, Scott did a great job. There were doubts after he showed his painting skills when we moved in but he totally redeemed himself :)

Next up is the chair rail, door and ceiling fan to replace that nasty chandelier. Then of course all the furniture! We can't wait to see the finished product! :) Keep you posted! xo

Backyard Finished!

I haven't blogged since June..opps. I couldn't find the hook up thingy for my camera to my computer for the longest time but I found it!

So, about a month ago we finished up a pretty serious project. And once again by 'we' I mean Scott...and some hired Mexican workers. We got a massive pile of dirt delivered to regrade the yard along with grass seed as well as arborvitae trees.

Here's the before...

Late winter yard right when we moved in.

Here is the yard all grown in in the Spring/Summer
Everything cleared, waiting for trees.
Everything torn up and arborvitae trees going in!

Here's the after...

Isn't our Flowering Dogwood tree so pretty? :)

Mission complete!! :)
